Do you have a strong coffee background or relevant tasting experience? Are you looking to become involved with competitions?

Becoming certified as a U.S. Coffee Championships (USCC) Judge provides you an opportunity to be involved at the center of the competition while helping to advance your overall coffee knowledge. At the Qualifying Competitions, our pool of judges plays an integral part in determining who moves on to the national championships. It is a serious commitment that provides participants access to some of the most innovative coffee preparation techniques in the specialty coffee community!

Prior to judging, you’ll need to carefully read and review the Rules & Regulations for the competition ahead of the Judges Certification Workshop, held the day before the start of competition.

Some important details: In order to judge at the U.S. Coffee Championships (USCC) you will need to judge at 1 or both of the CoffeeChamps Qualifying Competitions. Judges for USCC will be invited from the pool of judges from both Qualifying Competitions. Judging at a Qualifying Competition does not guarantee a spot to Judge at USCC. Judges must participate the Judges Certification Workshop the day before the Qualifying Competition. If you are judging at both CoffeeChamps Qualifying Competitions you’ll still need to attend both Judges Certification Workshops.

Online Learning Session: All competitors & judges are required to join one Online Learning Session.

Online Learning Sessions:

This season, the U.S. Competitions Working Group will offer 2 types of Online Learning Sessions for the U.S. CoffeeChamps Barista and Brewers Cup Qualifying Competitions:

  • Foundational Training - a one hour session required for all brand new judges and competitors (optional for those with previous experience). This training will cover Rules, scoresheets, onsite logistics, and judging protocols.

  • Refresher Training - a one hour session required for all judges and competitors who have previously participated in a qualifying event (optional for brand new judges). This training will cover Rule changes and onsite logistics.

And a judge specific of Online Learning Sessions for the Roaster and Coffee in Good Spirits Qualifying Competitions to cover judging protocols, Rules, scoresheets, and onsite logistics.

Online Learning Sessions are mandatory.

These sessions will be recorded; those who cannot attend the live session(s) may watch the recordings. However, attendance at a live session is highly recommended, so everyone has the opportunity to ask questions.

Both types of sessions are open to everyone. Competitors, coaches, co-workers, business owners, judges, and volunteers are welcome to attend either or both sessions.
