Roaster Qualifying Competition

 

For the 2018 season of the United States Roaster Championship there will be two Qualifying Competitions leading up to the national championship. In order to move on to USRC, Roasters must first qualify at the U.S. CoffeeChamps in Reno, NV or New Orleans, LA. 

Each Qualifying Competition will host 30 competitors, for a total of 60 spots.

SCA/BGA/RG/CTG members get 2 free attendee passes for their coaches/helpers

Registrations are non-refundable/non-transferable. The name on the registration is the competitor, this cannot be changed or substituted. Companies holding In-House Competitions will need to have their competitor’s name ready prior to the start of registration.

The competition will sell out very quickly! Be sure to have everything you need to register ready prior to registration opening.


Competition Overview

During the 2018 U.S. Roaster Qualifying Competition, competitors will participate in a Compulsory Round. 20 pounds of compulsory green coffee will be shipped to competitors, they will roast, and bring 2lbs to their Qualifying Competition. Their coffee will first be judged in a blind tasting. Then, competitors will present their compulsory roasted coffee to the judges and serve it to the CoffeeChamps audience and attendees!

Compulsory green coffee will be shipped to competitors in early November. No substitutions are allowed. The registered competitor must be the one to roast and present the coffee to the judges. Any substitutions will result in disqualification.

Online Learning Sessions

The Online Learning Sessions are for competitors and judges. The U.S. Competitions Working Group will go over the Rules & Regulations, highlighting any Rules changes, and judging protocols. Competitors must take one of the Roaster Competitor sessions as it acts as the the competitor meeting. Judges must take the Roaster Judge session.

Online Learning Sessions are mandatory.

These sessions will be recorded; those who cannot attend the live session(s) may watch the recordings. However, attendance at a live session is highly recommended, so everyone has the opportunity to ask questions about the Rules & judging protocols.

Both sessions are open to everyone. Competitors, coaches, co-workers, business owners, judges, and volunteers are welcome to attend both sessions.
