The United States Barista Championship (USBC) is a platform for baristas to enhance their espresso beverage making skills through an exciting and challenging competition. The barista must prepare and serve coffee beverages for sensory judges; all while being assessed on their preparation abilities by technical judges.

There are two types of events that take place around the country leading up to the USBC — the Preliminaries and two Qualifying Competitions (CoffeeChamps). Baristas must compete at a CoffeeChamps event to qualify for the national championship.

There will be 60 competitors at each Qualifying Competition. 36 competitors are moving on to the U.S. Coffee Championships. The top 6 competitors from each of the two CoffeeChamps events will go directly into the Semi-Finals round. The next 12 competitors from each Qualifying Competition will be invited to compete in the First Round of U.S. Barista Championship. The winner of the 2019 U.S. Barista Championship will represent the United States at the World Barista Championship in Boston, MA from April 11-14, 2019!
